Pumpkin Crochet Appliqué Pattern in 2 Sizes with Vines

Nothing says autumn quite like a pumpkin, whether it’s piled high at a farm stand or carved on the doorstep. This pumpkin crochet appliqué pattern gives you two sizes to play with, plus a trailing vine to tuck around them, so you can build anything from a single tidy pumpkin to a sprawling patch.

It’s one of the appliqué motifs in my Autumn Landscapes Crochet Picture Set, but it’s just as at home stitched onto a jumper, scattered across a blanket, or used in a design entirely your own.

Why You’ll Love This Pumpkin Crochet Appliqué Pattern

  • Two sizes so you can create a realistic pumpkin patch.
  • The trailing vines add realism and let you link pumpkins together across a scene.
  • Quick to make, ideal for using up orange and green yarn from your stash.
  • Genuinely versatile, equally at home on a blanket, a jumper or as part of the Autumn Landscapes Crochet Picture Set.

Yarn

For this pumpkin applique pattern, you will need small amounts of Scheepjes Catona, 100% Mercerized Cotton (50g/1.76oz, 137yds/125m) in Sweet Orange 411, Sage Green 212, Hazelnut 503, and Fir 525

Yarn Alternatives

This pattern is designed to be used with 4ply/sport weight yarn, but you can substitute for any that you prefer. You only really need small amounts of lots of the colours, so now is the perfect time to use yarn from your stash! Whilst I used cotton, you can equally use acrylic or wool for this design. Just remember to adjust your hook size to match if necessary.

Here are a few alternative options:

Supplies you will need

Magic Ring

The magic ring is a fantastic way to start crocheting in amigurumi, and any crochet in the round. It can be a bit complicated though, so do check out my YouTube tutorial above for a visual guide.

  1. Lay the tail end of the yarn over your palm and wrap the ball end around your first 2 fingers. Cross the yarn over and hold that point with your thumb and forefinger.
  2. Pull the loop off your fingers, insert your hook into the hole and grab the ball end of the yarn with your hook.
  3. Pull the yarn back through the loop. At this point, readjust your hand so you are holding the yarn as you normally would.
  4. Put your middle finger and ring finger into the loop to hold it. Then yarn over and pull through to secure your ring.
