I think I may be a little obsessed with crochet oak leaves – this is my fourth oak leaf crochet pattern I’ve released. This one was designed to match my large crochet acorn and so these are slightly larger than life crochet oak leaves and I think they may be my favourite.

Made in just 2 rounds, you’ll be whipping up hundreds of them from just 1 ball of yarn, or have a look in your stash and make them in all different colours. These crochet leaves are perfect for autumn home decor, they look great strung on a garland or why not stick them onto a fall wreath.

3 images of crochet oak leaves in different angles and locations. One also features a crochet acorn, all are larger than life.

How is this Crochet Oak Leaf Made?

We start with a chain which we work along in stitches of varying heights. Then we turn and work back down the same chain to create a basic leaf shape. The second round creates the stalk first and then the individual parts of the oak leaf to complete it.

Yarn

Hobbii Tweed Delight,  85% Wool, 10% Acrylic, 5% Viscose (50g/1.76oz, 100m/109yds)

I used Autumn Maple and Red Clay for my leaves and acorn, but unfortunately Red Clay has been discontinued. Some good substitutes would be Amber Glow or Dijon, or feel free to experiment – there are lots of stunning colours.

Yarn Alternatives

There are so many options for yarn for your acorn and leaves, but I honestly would recommend using a category 3 or 4 light or medium weight yarn from your stash. This is a great way to use up leftover skeins of anything that you think would work!

Here are a few alternative options:

Tension

A leaf takes so little time to crochet that it is worth just making a leaf and seeing if it comes out the size you want. If it’s too big try a smaller hook, if it’s too small try a larger hook.

Pattern Notes

Be sure to read through these notes before you start your crochet oak leaf — they’ll make the pattern much easier to follow.

  • Read through the pattern completely before starting and refer to the special stitches as needed.
  • ch1 at the start of a row or round does not count as a stitch.
  • St counts are written in [ ] at the end of each row. Where the st count is the same as the row above, no st count is given.
