I’ve become obsessed with oak leaves and acorns this autumn and have been studying and recreating them in yarn of all sizes. I’m excited to share this crochet leaf blanket pattern with you, in the shape of a giant oak leaf!
It’s the perfect project to curl up under on a crisp autumn day – quick to make, wonderfully soft, and full of seasonal charm. Whether you drape it over the sofa, use it as a lap blanket, use it as a fireside rug or gift it to a nature lover, this leaf-shaped design brings a touch of woodland magic into your home.
This pattern includes clear, step-by-step instructions to help you create a crochet oak leaf. There’s also a video tutorial to help you with any tricky bits!

I love bringing nature into my crochet and really wanted to recreate some autumnal wonders in yarn. Whilst this pattern may look confusing, it’s only made using basic stitches and it’s really just a case of working stitch by stitch around the leaf.
How do you make a crochet oak leaf?
We start by creating the main stalk of the leaf and then adding the veins to each side.
We then work around the veins and the stalk adding the leaf shape.
We finish with a bit of seaming and a final round of single crochet.

Pattern Notes
Be sure to read through these notes before you start your crochet autumn leaves – they will make it so much easier to understand the pattern!
- Read through the pattern completely before starting and refer to the special stitches as needed.
- We work on the RS of the leaf throughout, working around the main stalk from one side to the other.
- To help make reading the pattern easier, the VEIN of the leaf that you are working on is indicated in capital letters eg. VEIN1. Each round is split into sections to make it clearer.
- Don’t worry too much about the stitches. As long as you get the tops of the veins in the right place, you’ll be kept on track.

Made with DK weight cotton yarn, it works up fairly quickly and looks stunning on a mantelpiece or shelf. Using only a small amount of yarn, this is a great stash buster project too!

With WS facing and with a separate piece of yarn, join leaves together where they touch using a slip stitch seam. If you feel any gaps between stitches (such as dc3tog) are too large they can be sewn together at this point too.
Round 5:
Continuing now where we left off at the end of Round 4, ch1, sc in each st around, making sc2tog in any corners, or where the veins meet, where you feel it is needed for the sts to lay flat. In the same way you can also add 2sc in the same st if you feel it is needed.
Fasten off and weave in ends on WS. The RS is the side where the main stalk is protruding. Enjoy your oak leaf crochet blanket!
