Acorns on the ground are one of the first signs of autumn that I really love! I could not resist the urge to create a large Crochet Acorn in gorgeous tweed colours, which is just perfect for autumn and Halloween decor. Even better, this crochet acorn free pattern comes with matching crochet oak leaves too!
Whether you string them on a garland or pop them into a basket, these crochet acorns are such a joy, both to make and to decorate with. Worked in the round, this is a quick and easy project that’s great for using up yarn scraps too! You could even experiment making them in all different yarn weights.

How is this Crochet Acorn Made?
The tweed crochet acorn is made in the round starting at the top of the nut. We continue in rounds increasing to create the correct shape. Then we change yarn for the shell and finish it off with textured bobble stitches, and a thin stalk.
The acorn is stuffed but don’t worry about going out to buy special stuffing if you don’t have any. Mine is stuffed with leftover yarn ends!
Yarn
Hobbii Tweed Delight, 85% Wool, 10% Acrylic, 5% Viscose (50g/1.76oz, 100m/109yds)
I used Autumn Maple and Red Clay for my acorn and leaves, but unfortunately Red Clay has been discontinued. Some good substitutes would be Amber Glow or Dijon, or feel free to experiment – there are lots of stunning colours.
Yarn Alternatives
There are so many options for yarn for your acorn and leaves, but I honestly would recommend using a category 3 or 4 light or medium weight yarn from your stash. This is a great way to use up leftover skeins of anything that you think would work!
Here are a few alternative options:
- Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed Aran, 100% Wool, (50g/1.76oz, 88m/96yds)
- City Tweed DK, 55% Merino Wool, 25% Superfine Alpaca, 20% Donegal Tweed, (50g/1.76oz, 112m/123yds)
- King Cole Big Value Tweed DK, 98% Acrylic 2% Viscose, (100g/3.53oz, 290m/317yds)
- Stylecraft Life Tweed DK, 75% Acrylic 25% Wool, (100g/3.53oz, 298m/326yds)
Materials For Your Crochet Acorn
- 4.5mm Crochet Hook or hook needed to match gauge

Magic Ring (MR)
The magic ring is a fantastic way to start crocheting in amigurumi, and any crochet in the round. It can be a bit complicated though, so do check out my YouTube tutorial above for a visual guide.
1.Lay the tail end of the yarn over your palm and wrap the ball end around your first 2 fingers. Cross the yarn over and hold that point with your thumb and forefinger. 2. Pull the loop off your fingers, insert your hook into the hole and grab the ball end of the yarn with your hook. 3. Pull the yarn back through the loop. At this point, readjust your hand so you are holding the yarn as you normally would. 4. Put your middle finger and ring finger into the loop to hold it. Then yarn over and pull through to secure your ring.
You can then start crocheting into the ring in the normal way.

Bobble Stitch (bob)
yo, insert hook into st, yo and pull through a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops, (yo, insert hook into same st, yo and pull through a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops) 5 times, yo and pull through all 7 loops to complete.

- ch1 at the start of a row or round does not count as a stitch.
- St counts are written in [ ] at the end of each row. Where the st count is the same as the row above, no st count is given.
