Every year for as long as I can remember, my parents organise an Easter hunt! Now that we’re all grown up, it’s our kids that enjoy following the clues and hunting for those little chocolate treats. It’s always a fabulous occasion with lunch thrown in too, and the kids are usually on their best behaviour.
We’ve used different Easter Baskets over the years for our hunts. From paper ones to felt ones, there are a lot of different options out there, but I really think crochet baskets are one of the best types!
Why Crochet Your Own Easter Baskets?
Crocheted Easter baskets are versatile, reusable, and eco-friendly. Unlike disposable plastic or flimsy paper baskets, a handmade crochet basket can be cherished year after year, becoming a treasured part of your family’s Easter traditions. And reducing how much rubbish goes to landfill too!
They’re perfect for the egg hunts, but you can also use them as festive table centrepieces, or as mini gift baskets filled with treats. I’m sure they’d make great teacher gifts too!
Endless Possibilities for Design
As you’ll see, there are a vast selection of different ideas for crochet Easter baskets to choose from below. I think it’s going to be hard choosing which one to make.
Whether you prefer sturdy, structured baskets made with thick yarn and tight stitches, or more decorative, lacy styles with bright spring colours, there’s a pattern to suit every taste.
But once you’ve chosen a design, the decisions don’t stop there!

Customising your Basket
The beauty of handmade is that you can customise every detail. Consider the yarn you’d like to use carefully, maybe reaching into your stash to find something there, or using a sustainable yarn.
Choose colours that match your Easter theme, adjust the size to fit the perfect number of eggs, or add personal touches like initials or motifs. Think about adding embellishments like flowers, bunnies, or even pom-poms to give your basket a unique flair.
