Mini Crochet Christmas Tree Pattern: Free Appliqué

A little tree is the quickest way to make any handmade Christmas scene feel finished. This mini crochet Christmas tree is worked in simple rows of single crochet, with ridges that give it a layered, textured look, and it takes hardly any yarn at all, making it a great stash buster too.

This crochet fir tree is one of the appliqué motifs in my Winter Landscapes Crochet Picture Set, but it’s just as at home on a card, a garland or a wreath. It’s also one of the 24 mini decorations in my Woodland Advent Calendar. Find the full pattern and video below.

Mini Crochet Christmas Tree FAQs

How big is this mini crochet Christmas tree?

The mini crochet Christmas tree measures 2.5 inches (6cm) tall. Worked in sport weight cotton, it’s a small appliqué perfect or cards, tags and garlands.

Why do I work into the back and front loops?

Working into the back loops on one row and the front loops on the next row leaves a small ridge at each tier, which gives the tree its layered, textured look.

Where do I attach the trunk?

With the tree upside down and the right side facing you, join the trunk yarn to the back loop of the fifth stitch of Row 1, as written in the pattern. This puts the trunk near the centre of the base.

Can I make a bigger tree?

Yes. If you use thicker yarn and a hook to match, this will give you a larger tree. Try making several in different sizes and shades of green to create a forest.
