How to get the pattern
There are a few different ways that you can get your leaf blanket crochet pattern.
You can carry on scrolling down and read the pattern for free on the blog in US crochet terms. The blog has ads on it, which is how I am able to offer it for free. Please do bookmark the page and come back to it as you work on your pattern though, rather than trying to print it out. Spending time on this page is how I get paid. You will then need to move about the different blog posts for the 24 hanging decorations.
Alternatively you can purchase a premium pdf version of the pattern, which includes schematic, stitch tutorials, links to lots of video tutorials and full explanations. The premium pattern comes in US and UK terms. And of course, if you purchase the pattern, it is yours to keep, print and make notes on too.
PLEASE NOTE: The premium pattern is a pdf crochet pattern, written in English. It is not a finished project. You will receive a digital download upon completion of purchase.
Tension:
Gauge: 19 sts and 12.5 rows over main set pattern using 4mm hook.
Gauge swatch: working a gauge swatch is important, to ensure that your blanket comes out the size you want. If your sample swatch is bigger than the tension given, try with a smaller hook size. If your swatch is smaller than the tension given, try with a larger hook size.

What Crochet Stitches are Used in the Textured Crochet Blanket Pattern?
Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc)
The Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc) is a versatile stitch that adds depth and texture to crochet projects. Instead of working into the top loops like a standard double crochet, the fpdc is worked around the post of the stitch from the previous row, creating a raised effect. This technique is commonly used in ribbing, cables, and intricate textured patterns.
- Yarn over.
- Going from front to back to front again, insert your hook around the post of the stitch below.
- Yarn over.
- Pull the loop back around the post.
- Yarn over and pull through two.
- Yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.
- Repeat as required.

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc)
The Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc) is worked in a very similar way to the Front Post Double Crochet. Instead of working into the top loops like a standard double crochet, the bpdc is worked around the post of the stitch from the previous row, creating a raised effect. The only difference is where we insert the hook.
- Yarn over.
- Going from back to front to back again, insert your hook around the post of the stitch below.
- Yarn over.
- Pull the loop back around the post.
- Yarn over and pull through two.
- Yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.
- Repeat as required.
By working different combinations of the two post stitches, we can create the trailing leaves pattern used here.
I have a step by step tutorial of the trailing leaves stitch pattern too!
Pattern Notes
Be sure to read through these notes before you start your easy baby crochet blanket – they will make it so much easier to understand the pattern!
- Read through the pattern completely before starting and refer to the stitch tutorials as needed.
- Ch2 counts as a st.
- St counts are given in [ ] at the end of a row. Where there is no st count, it is the same as the previous row. In this pattern the stitch counts remain the same throughout.
- Sizes are laid out as follows: Lovey (Security, Pram, Baby, Cot, Toddler) (Lapghan, Throw, Single/Twin, Double/Queen, King).
- Before you start, go through the pattern and highlight the stitch and row numbers for the size you are making. This will make it much easier to keep track.

FAQ
A: This pattern uses front post and back post double crochet stitches to create the textured trailing leaves design.
A: A smooth DK acrylic yarn works best to show off the texture while keeping the hat comfortable and wearable. It is quite a yarn hungry design, so please bear that in mind when choosing your yarn.
A: The pattern includes 11 different sizes. You can make your blanket however big you like. I have given stitch and row numbers for 11 different sizes, but if you would like to make adjustments to this you absolutely can. Obviously, you will need to adjust how much yarn you need if you make a different size.
ADJUST WIDTH
To adjust the width, add or subtract any multiple of 10 stitches to your starting chain.
ADJUST LENGTH
To adjust the length add or subtract any multiple 4 rows to your row number. Or continue repeating the set pattern until you are happy, making sure to end on a Row 1 or Row 5.
A: Whilst the pattern is categorised as intermediate, any confident beginner who has knowledge of front and back post stitches should be able to make this pattern.
