After the cold and wet of winter, I’m always so thrilled to see the first signs of spring in the form of little snowdrops poking through the earth! That’s why I was thrilled to be asked to design this snowdrops crochet pattern using overlay mosaic crochet for a crochet blanket.
This delicate design is part of the British Country Garden Mosaic Blanket CAL, hosted by Elimee Designs, and it’s all about celebrating all of the plants and flowers you find in a country garden. Whether you’re new to mosaic crochet or already hooked on the technique, this little snowdrop motif is a fun way to practice your stitches while creating something you’ll love. Grab your hook, your favourite flower shades, and let’s get stitching!

More About this Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern
The snowdrop motif featuring on this mosaic crochet pattern is made using overlay mosaic crochet as the name suggests.
This is a beautiful crochet technique, which uses only the single and double crochet stitches to create amazing designs. Whilst it may look super complicated, it really isn’t. If you can do these simple stitches and can identify the front and back loops, then you will definitely be able to make this pattern.
British Country Garden Blanket CAL
I’m excited that my overlay mosaic crochet pattern strip is part of the British Country Garden Blanket CAL, which is running throughout 2026. After taking part in the months of the year CAL in 2025, I couldn’t resist joining in with this one too!
This time it’s all about the British Country Garden: tulips, blackberries, snowdrops, foxgloves, roses and more!
With one beautiful section released each month, this CAL is designed for slow, satisfying crochet sessions — perfect for busy schedules, cosy evenings, or anyone who loves to savour their stitches without feeling rushed. And by the end of the year, you’ll have a stunning, heirloom-worthy blanket ready to enjoy

Overlay Mosaic Crochet
This mosaic crochet snowdrop pattern is made using the overlay mosaic crochet technique.
Overlay mosaic crochet is created by working into the back loops and front loops of different stitches. You work each alternate round or row in a different colour using a combination of two stitches: the US single crochet in the back loops only; and the US double crochet in the front loops only of the stitch two rows/rounds below the current round or row.
The single crochet will always be worked into a stitch of the other colour, whilst the mosaic double crochet stitches are worked into a stitch of the same colour as the one you are using. Amazingly though, we will only use one colour per round or row.
Click here to watch a tutorial on overlay mosaic crochet.
Overlay mosaic crochet is worked from right to left (for a right-handed crocheter) on the front of the work only. This means you would normally need to cut your yarn at the end of each row, and therefore have lots of ends.
Luckily though, there is the wonderful creation that is the envelope border, which we can add at the end. This encloses all of the ends in a lovely crocheted border, so we don’t have to weave in all of those ends. Or you could create tassels with the ends!
