It’s been a whole year since I designed this pattern for Crochet Now magazine, and now I’m excited to share it with you! This free crochet Christmas tree skirt pattern is the perfect festive touch for your home this season.
Designed with nature lovers in mind, this easy tapestry crochet pattern features falling snowflakes, woodland Christmas trees, and tiny cabins nestled in the snow around the bottom edge. Crochet the perfect heirloom project to make your holiday centrepiece truly unforgettable.
This pattern includes clear, step-by-step instructions to help you create your crochet Christmas tree skirt. There’s also a video tutorial to help you with any tricky bits!

I love bringing nature into my crochet and really wanted to recreate a magical Winter Wonderland scene with this tree skirt. Choose sparkly, bright yarn as I have, or go for neutrals for a subtle nordic vibe.
How do you make a crochet Christmas tree skirt pattern?
The Christmas tree skirt is made in one piece like you would make a circle, increasing by 6 stitches every round.
We start at the centre and work outwards using basic crochet stitches.
Tapestry crochet is used to create the design and the snowflakes are made using bobble stitches.
We finish by adding simple ties.
Yarn
Caron Simply Soft Party in Silver Sparkle x 7 balls (MC), 99% acrylic, 1% metalized polyester (85g/3oz, 150m/164yds) AND
Caron Simply Soft in Cool Green x 1 ball (CC1), Autumn Red x 1 ball (CC2), and Chocolate x 1 ball (CC3)
Yarn Alternatives
There are so many options for yarn for your Christmas Tree Skirt, but I would recommend using a category 4 medium weight yarn. You could even consider using stash yarn for the green, brown and red.
Here are a few alternative options:
Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran, 100% Acrylic, (100g/3.53oz, 184m/201yds)
Brava Worsted, 100% Acrylic, (100g/3.53oz, 200m/218yds)
Millamia Naturally Soft Aran, 100% Merino Wool, (50g/1.76oz, 80m/87yds)

5mm Crochet Hook or hook needed to match gauge
A tapestry needle for working in ends

Pattern Notes
Be sure to read through these notes before you start your scandi christmas tree skirt – they will make it so much easier to understand the pattern!
- Read through the pattern completely before starting and refer to the stitch tutorials as needed.
- Ch1 does not count as a stitch throughout.
- Stitch counts are given in this pattern in [ ] at the end of each round. Where no stitch count is given, it is the same as the previous round.
- There is a stitch chart in the paid version of the pattern, showing one-sixth of the skirt. You will need to repeat this chart six times around your skirt, noting the increases on each section.
- In some rows you will find nested repeats in {…} Repeat the stitches in […] as required each time you repeat the wider {…} repeat.
- The pattern is worked in turned rows.
- Colour changes should be made by following the chart or the written instructions.
- Where no colour is given, MC should be used.
- This pattern uses tapestry crochet for the colourwork. Change colour on the last yarn over of the previous stitch and try to carry the yarn always on the Wrong Side of the Christmas Tree Skirt. Introduce a new colour when required, and cut it at the end of a row if it is not required for the next row.
- Your Bobble stitches will always be made on Wrong Side rows.
- Ties should be added in the row ends of Rows 1, 16, 30, 44, 58, 73 on each side. You might want to mark your row ends with stitch markers as you work.
