Join the Children’s Crochet Challenge

Calling all Cool Crafters!

Ready for a 3-day adventure in the world of yarn? Our Children’s Crochet Challenge is perfect for beginners who want to learn the magic of making their own creations!

In just 3 days, you’ll learn the basics of crochet and make something awesome!

Who is it for?

The Children’s Crochet Challenge is for any child who has shown an interest in crochet. Not only that, it is for any child who is finding life difficult, who is looking for a creative outlet, or who is struggling with worries, nightmares or anxiety.

If you’d like to find out more about the benefits of crochet head over here.

You and your child do not need any experience with crochet at all! I am going to start at the very beginning and only touch on a very small part of what I hope will be a long, exciting crochet journey for your child (and you!)

When is the Children’s Crochet Challenge?

The Children’s Crochet Challenge will run from 9th to 11th April 2024 on a private Facebook Group. I’ll be going live in the group everyday at 9am GMT, but if you can’t make it live, you can catch up later on. Wherever you are in the world, you can join!

How does it work?

On each of the 3 days, I’m going to go live in our private Facebook Group to introduce the day’s task and teach you what you’ll need to know to complete the challenge. There will be resources added to the group to help you each day, as well as a task post.

Each day I’m going to ask you child to complete a small activity and take a photo of it. If you upload those photos into the task thread each day, then your child will be in with a chance of winning a very special crochet prize to set them up on their crochet journey!

What will I need for the challenge?

To join in with the challenge, your child will need a hook and yarn. I’m going to recommend a hook and yarn size, but at this stage, if you have any hook and yarn lying around the house (or you can borrow), then that will be completely fine.

If you do have a choice, I would recommend using a chunky yarn and a 6mm crochet hook. If you’re looking at yarn and wondering how to know if it’s chunky, take a look at the ball band: on it, there will be a little graphic of a ball of yarn with a number in the middle. You’ll want to choose a yarn with a number 5 weight!
